Distinguished guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s a great pleasure and honor to me, as a member of the Greek parliament, to welcome you all in my hometown Lefkada.

To welcome not only the Greek visitors, but also our guests and visitors from other countries, at a particularly crucial time for Greece.

We are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the folklore festival in Lefkada, which was founded to develop civilization and culture, to promote communication among people, as well as solidarity and fellowship among countries.

These values have been inculcated by European leaders for decades and today they are in danger.

I would like to take advantage of your presence, dear guests and visitors from other countries, to ask you to convey the great effort that Greek people are making at this difficult time, to the citizens and authorities of your countries, when you go back home.

Please tell them that the Greek people are hardworking. They struggle to support their families as well as the actions of their government; actions that derive from the agreements and the internationally organized supervision of Greece, by the Eurozone.

Meanwhile, Greek people try to focus on development, to create investment opportunities, in order to meet the requisites of the European Union.

However, rhetoric against Greece has been developed.

This is unfair, because as a significant European politician says; “Europe owes much to this country, this people” and they do not deserve such behavior.

I want to remind you of similar behaviors in the past that have caused extremely dangerous situations against people and countries.

For instance, after the First World War in Germany, the “Weimar Republic”

Unfortunately, we are witnessing similar phenomena in the politics of our country. Extreme political formations have appeared in Greece that in my opinion, are likely to occur in neighboring countries with similar problems, in the future.

Dear German citizens, friends of Greek civilization, friends of us, you are well aware of what it means to be a victim from this past experience. Do not allow this to occur in Greece.

You are the ones, who can demand more solidarity from your leadership, in order to resolve the crisis in Europe.

“If we leave someone at random, for example Greece, then the speculators will put the next in the firing line”.

Dear friends, I wish you all enjoy your stay in Lefkada.

It will be a pleasure if you give us the opportunity to welcome you again in the future.
